Automatic door faults: GEZE, TORMAX and record systems

By The Façade Doctor · Published 21 September 2026

An automatic door that sticks, reopens repeatedly or will not close can disrupt a busy entrance. The Façade Doctor handles automatic-door repair and replacement enquiries as part of its building-envelope work. The operator model and safety arrangement need to be identified before the repair scope is confirmed.

GEZE: distinguish ECdrive sliding operators from Powerturn swing drives

GEZE ECdrive T2 is a sliding-door drive system. Powerturn is a swing-door drive family. A conventional door closer, such as a GEZE TS 5000, is a different product from an automatic operator. Reporting only “GEZE door” can therefore leave the key equipment unidentified.

Supply the drive label, entrance type, controller or selector display and a description of the behaviour. State whether the door remains open, reverses during closing, moves unevenly or fails to respond. The survey should consider the door mechanics and sensors as well as the operator; a fault does not automatically mean the drive must be replaced.

TORMAX: iMotion operator identification

TORMAX documentation includes iMotion 2202.A and other iMotion sliding-door drives. The exact reference and serial number matter: the name iMotion alone does not specify the complete entrance, control configuration or replacement components.

Include the displayed fault information without repeatedly resetting the equipment. Note whether one leaf or both leaves are affected, whether the fault is intermittent and whether it started after a power interruption or impact. These observations help the attending specialist plan investigation without assuming a particular controller, motor or sensor is at fault.

record: DFA 127 swing-door operator enquiries

The record DFA 127 is a swing-door operator. Identify it separately from sliding-door equipment or an underfloor drive. Record’s UK information also identifies model-specific accessories such as the DFA 127 battery pack; this is not a universal automatic-door battery.

For an entrance that no longer opens reliably, record the operator label, controls, sensors and any access-control connection shown in the service documentation. The installed options and intended door function determine which replacement and testing steps are appropriate.

Sliding and swing door symptoms to report

A door that repeatedly reopens can involve a detection, obstruction or mechanical issue; a door that will not latch can involve alignment, a lock or the closing arrangement. These are investigation routes, not a remote diagnosis. Photos and a short description of when the fault occurs are more useful than guessing a replacement motor.

  • Door stays open or does not respond to the activation sensor.
  • Door closes then reverses, or operates intermittently.
  • Sliding leaves scrape, judder or travel unevenly.
  • Swing door fails to latch, rubs the floor or has visible hinge movement.
  • Error indication, damaged sensor, impact damage or abnormal noise.

What to expect from an automatic-door repair assessment

The assessment should identify the entrance and operator, review service records, examine mechanical condition and safety devices, and agree the work and verification needed before return to service. Where specialist operator support is required, that must be included in the scope.

Do not bypass sensors, alter safety settings or force a powered door. If its movement is unsafe, manage access under the building’s procedures and arrange competent attendance. Fire, smoke-control and escape-route functions require particular care; a general operator repair does not establish compliance of the entire door assembly.

Manufacturer names here identify equipment for enquiries. They do not imply that The Façade Doctor is an authorised GEZE, TORMAX or record service agent. Model support, parts, access and the agreed maintenance scope are confirmed for each job.

Discuss your repair

Send the location, system reference and photographs of the fault. We will assess the scope, access requirements and suitable next steps.
